Washing instructions
How to take care of your loved Houdini garments
The right dosage of detergent
Make sure you don't use too much detergent when washing your clothes. Check the packaging for instructions on how much detergent to use. Your clothes wont be cleaner by using more detergent, you rather risk destroying your clothes and last but not least – it's not good for the environment.
By adding too much detergent there's a big risk the washing machine won't be able to get rid of all the detergent and some might stay in your clothes. This can cause irritation to the skin and allergies. In addition, the clothes colours can bleach.
Watch out for sharp laundry labels
It's always good to make sure there's no sharp laundry labels on the inside of garments. They have a tendency to shred the garment you are wearing underneath and make it crinkled. Even if it doesn't mean it will break it's always sad when they start to look ugly.
For all materials in general:
Make sure all zippers and velcro's are closed. This reduces the chance of fabrics getting stuck in sharp items during the wash which can make it crinkled.
Insulated shell – and - Shell with membrane
Air out the garment after using it. If you have been using the clothing in salt water, or if it's dirty/sweaty – wash. If you let the garment become to dirty/sweaty you will damage the ventilation and it can even start to leak water trough the dirt.
- When washing, use a 40 degrees program
- Try to use a environmental friendly detergent
- You can hang dry, but it can be good to supply heath to the clothing to re activate the water repelling surface of the outer fabric. Use a dryer, a heat locker or a iron – just make sure you have full control over the heat so the shell doesn't melt.
Wool
We advice you to air out your wool items as wool is an amazing natural material and cleans itself when being aired out. You'll get the best result if you hang the garment outside to air out, under a roof, in moist condition.
You do not need to wash your wool clothing after each use. If you wash your wool clothes to often you will impair the wool.
- When washing, use a wool program, 40 degrees
- Preferably use a specific wool detergant
- Do not use in dryer
- After washing, shape the garment and hang dry
Fleece
- Wash it using a 40 degrees program.
- Try to use a environmental friendly detergent
- Do not use in dryer, it will just damage your clothing. Hang dry instead.
Silk
Try washing your silk clothing as seldom as possible. We recommend you to hang the garment to air out instead.
If you feel that you need to wash your garment, use a mild program using 30 or 40 degrees and liquid detergent. Do not use fabric softener. Occasionally you might need to dry clean.
Polyester, underwear
